Capturing moments and experimenting with Enlight Videoleap

Much to the dismay of people who walk with me, I get excited by the almost everything around me. Why does this bother some folk? You might ask. Well it has to do with my desire to capture moments.

I look around a lot and stop frequently. I particularly love capturing sunlight - so this can be walking anywhere that the sun is and involves lots of back-it-upness to catch the light exactly where it’s the most enticing. An amateur videographer - I capture it all on my iPhone Max 10s.

Getting past the one-day-when…

The footage up till a few months ago would sit pretty in my iCloud memory taking up space. A couple of bits would end up on instagram but I would save the rest for that one-day-when.

One-day-when I have time to spend on Adobe After Effects putting something awesome together. This is still a very valid option and I would never not do this. But I have discovered over the last couple of years some apps that allow you to do pretty interesting editing, all from the convenience of the phone you are shooting on. One such app called Videoleap has got me in a creative vortex.

Experimenting with Enlight Videoleap app on iPhone

One I used recently called Videoleap - is a little of a one-stop-shop. Very convenient and easy to use. I definitely still spent time on jazzing up my footage and getting creative, however the act of the experimenting was very nice. It was a pleasure to play with.

Editing, layering, keyframes oh my

I wound up editing various videos taken over the last few months on my iPhone. Layering the footage to create some interesting effects. Playing with the blending, filters and effects on the app and creating a 1 minute Instagram story and post.

Music to my ears

I was pleased to find that the Videoleap app allows you to add your own music therefore you’re not limited to a stock music library of their choosing. It also integrates to a couple of footage and image stock libraries should you require it. It’s a good idea to check the licensing on a track / tune before you go posting it anywhere.

I found a pretty special track (Foolin’ by Nangdo) a while back on a the freemusicarchive. The artist Nangdo is a DJ / Producer based in Berlin and the tune is pretty damn awesome. @nangdo_ on Instagram for those that like to follow.

I recommend always crediting your tracks and ensuring you have the right permissions. Us creatives have to work together.

Adding text and animating

Videoleap app really does allow for a lot of advanced editing features. You can cut up tracks and video, add and play with text, insert keyframe animations, and apply animations and affects to everything.

Free app alert

Though there are a couple of pro features that require an upgrade there are still enough free options and effects to really get a feel for it unlike some other apps I have used. A major plus point for Videoleap is that it opens the doorway to doing this kind of advanced editing on your phone from anywhere. And the restrictions are minimal.

Export multiple formats up to 4k without a watermark

Another thumbs up is that it doesn’t ask for an app watermark or auto-apply one on export. You can export to different ratio formats and up to 4k quality. The export was really simple and pretty speedy.

An exciting discovery

Now that I have discovered this app it is going to be hard not to want to do more and more on it. I see an addiction forming. No longer will footage stay privately on my iCloud but be introduced the world or at least my friends.

Part of a suite of apps

I found the app on the Apple App Store after doing a search for video and photo editing apps. Out of what I downloaded at the time I have found Videoleap the easiest and most inspiring to use. It is also part of a suite of other apps including Pixaleap (I have not yet explored this one fully).

About the developers

Having enjoyed using the app so much I have got a little more info about the developers since I really want to thank them for the awesomeness.

Here is a snippet from their little press piece:

Lightricks was founded in 2013 by five entrepreneurs from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, four of them CS PhD students, to create the leading creativity tools company for the mobile era. The company’s first two paid products, Facetune and Enlight, are two of the world’s most successful premium creativity apps, with over 11 million paid units sold. Enlight is the most powerful suite of image processing tools on mobile.

A feature I didn’t know about

After looking up the developers I read their press release and found an extra feature I didn’t know about:

Chroma Key – Similar to green screen technology used in broadcasts and video production, this feature uses AI edge awareness to remove solid backgrounds, while leaving foregrounds intact with the options to merge and blend multiple videos.
